What We Offer

Initial Consultation Visit

This will be in your home and enables us to meet each other, exchange ideas and discuss your requirements for care. We offer telephone numbers of other clients that we have cared for so that you can chat to them for references.

We do charge a small amount for this visit. Women choose to book with either of us their primary midwife but we are always available to each other and their clients for support and visits if necessary.

We are available 24 hours a day after you book, until 28 days after your baby is born.

Antenatal

All your antenatal care will be in the comfort and privacy of your own home and arranged to suit you. The first visit lasts about 2 hours during which time we will take your medical and maternity history, do a physical examination with your consent if appropriate. Just as important however is talking about worries, thoughts and hopes for your pregnancy. Subsequent visits are arranged to suit individual need. We are always available to talk to on the telephone in between visits. Any antenatal tests or screening should you choose them will be arranged by us either via NHS or privately if you prefer.

We have a wide range of books, research papers, journals, and videos, which we lend out. We support women in exploring other options for their care for example alternative therapies.

Labour And Birth

We will be with you throughout your labour and baby’s birth, wherever you decide to birth. We can practise in our full capacity as a midwife in your home but our role in hospital depends on local policy. You can call us whenever you feel you need us in labour.

We provide all the equipment necessary for a safe home birth.

After your baby is born we stay until we are all reassured that all is well.

If you wish to labour and/or birth in water then you will need to hire a pool at your expense. We can offer some suggestions and guidance here.

Postnatal Care

Depending on what time your baby is born we will visit you later that day or early the next day. During our visits we will be checking to ensure you and your baby remain well. We will support you during this tiring and emotional time as new parents. We give you plenty of time and support in getting breast-feeding established. Our visits are frequent in the first week and then reduce as you become more confident adapting to parenthood.
